Sleepy

Was anyone else super sleepy last night? I don't just mean regular sleepy. I mean can't get off the couch to even cook dinner, boned tired? I literally came home and sat. Like gravity was pinning me down to that couch and I didn't have the strength to even say uncle. We popped in a move around 6:30. Posiedon. This movie made Titanic look oscar worthy. When it was over M went to bed. It isn't unusual for him to go to bed at 8 PM since he gets up at 4 am. By 9 PM, I was alone in the livingroom with spittle running down my chin from dozing off. I went to look for Autumn and she was already snoring in her room. She didn't even say good night.

So I locked the house up tight and went off to bed myself. I slept great but still didn't want to get up this morning and snoozed for almost 20 minutes. I'll be honest here people, I don't get up until 7 AM. I know that seems like plenty of sleep time. But it truly isn't. I'm bigger therefore I need more sleep. Are you buying that? haha Yea, me neither.

Is Your Job Making You Fat?

I received an email from weight watchers this morning asking me, "Is your job making you fat?" I wish it were that easy. Yes, my job makes me fat so I'm going to quit and be skinny. My fatness is not work related. It's not my job, I'm not miserable at home, I don't eat to forget my childhood. I'm just fat. F-A-T. I like eating chinese food for breakfast (mmmm mushu). I like soda a LOT. I don't know how to go to a BBQ and not pig out. I'm not going to sit here and make excuses. I only have myself to blame for that one pound gain. You didn't know that did you? I gained a pound about 2 weeks ago and it's hanging on like a lint ball stuck to your back side. My saving grace has been walking. I'm more motivated when I know I've eaten way too much.

I'm not giving up. I'm determined to at least lose this pound. I bought some pants that are a smaller size. That was fun. I want more fun. I can get past this hurdle. It's a big hurdle and I was never good at hurdles. I'm short and in school when we used to have to jump I always knocked them down. Well, I guess that would work too. I'm just gonna knock this one down. I'm gonna knock it down and stomp on it til it's a small pile of dust and then let my dog poo on it! Sorry, that was a little weird. PMS.

Note To Fire Department

Next time you do a "training" exercise where you start a fire and let the newbies put it out, please don't do it right next to my fucking house.

Thank you.

Summer of 84

Tonight my husband and my childhood friend are going to see Journey and Def Leppard in concert. I've never seen either. I'm not so jazzed about Journey. I like them, but without Steve Perry, I just don't know if I will like it. Luckily they are the opening act this time around. I'm really jazzed about seeing Def Leppard. This is the poster that hung in my room when I was a teenager.
def 1

The summer of 1984 was one of the best in my girlhood. We were going to be entering high school in the fall. We'd just had the best year in 8th grade. 8th grade was the shit. You felt so high because you were older than anyone in school. Our town was small so the school was 4th through 8th grade. We thought we were so effing cool. Of course, you know this ends with you entering high school and becoming a lowly turd again. But I digress. The summer of 84 was spent going to a local swimming hole, tanning, listening to the few cassettes that we owned collectively. Def Leppard Pyromania was one, Police Synchronicity and Quiet Riot Come On Feel the Noise were the others. Damn those were good times. I'm hoping to feel a little of my youth tonight.

Here is a pic of the band now.

def 2

I laugh when I hear Joe Elliot say they were NOT a part of the hair band thing. Uh, I beg to differ buddy. hahaha I see now they are all shorn as a statement to that fact. I don't see the big deal. Hair bands were huge. Why not just embrace it as part of your history?

Have a good weekend y'all.

The One Where I Toot Autumn's Horn

A lot has happened since we last talked. Autumn had her first day of school, as you know. I was excited to hear about it so I ran an errand for work and of course, swung by home. I like that I get to do that. She was home already on the computer of course. Before I can get any answers out of her, she shows me her school bag, bursting at the seams with brand new school books. Three of them. I began wondering how she lugged this 40 lb bag home from the bus stop. No No NO. Thoughts of Autumn laid up in traction were clouding my vision as I told her that this was not a suitable book bag for this kind of load. Confrontation is not something Autumn and I do well. I usually put my foot down (all the way down my throat) and she fights me tooth and nail. As I tell her again that this is just not going to work she shrieks and runs for the hills. Unbelievable. I was so disappointed. I thought I'd come home and I'd laugh as she told me how her day was in the cute, animated way she usually does.

Defeated, I returned to work. I told my story twice to two different people before she called me at work. Thankfully, she ate and was feeling more human. She'd called her girlfriend and asked her if there were books that were to be left at home, which there were two. So the book load would be managable in the crappy messenger bag she can't seem to live without. Thanks be to God. At this point, the story of her day just spilled out over the phone. She loves sixth grade. She likes her classes. Yes, LD, she's already "played" with her math book. N-E-R-D I'm just not sure how one "plays" with a math book but I'm just gonna go with it. Towards the end of our conversation I was on the verge of tears. She made up with her friend, formerly known her as bitch face. I guess I'll have to come up with a new name for her. Apparently, I heard from the mother, Autumn went up to her and apologized for their troubles last year. They were friendly all day and rode the bus home together. I'm going to gloat a bit here. The tone of my friend's (the other mother) voice and something she said made me believe that she was a little disappointed that her daughter wasn't the girl to swallow her pride today. I savored this a little. Today, my girl was humble. I may spend a lot of time this year reminding her to be the good girl, but today I'm savoring it like a good prime rib dinner. (yes, I'm still fucking hungry).

I'm so glad this day has come and gone already. I'd been eating all my frustrations, worrying about how she and this girl were going to get along in the same class. Worrying about money. Worrying about committments I'd made but not necessarily wanted to fulfill. I can honestly say that I've my prayers have been answered and I was able to face up to some other things I'd kept putting off. My plate is now clean. (geez I really need to stop with the food metaphors don't I?) I'm ready to have a great weekend!

Here is a glimpse of Autumn dressed for her second day of school. My little fashionista!

It's The First Day of School!!!!!

back to school

I was nice to see the bus stops full this morning with well dressed children. Their backpacks full of crisp new paper, sharpened pencils, iPods. This is the 21st century after all. It was a good feeling seeing all the kids this morning. To me, it means the end of summer. Autumn is just around the corner. I could even feel it in the air this morning while I was walking. Yea, I walked. I need to step back into my program. I was apparently on vacation from it and didn't even realize it. Ok, I realized it and I just didn't care.

Autumn was very excited to be going back. Even though she's going back to a school that a week ago demolished the 5th and 6th grade wings and set up portables on the basketball courts. She was out of the shower, dressed and had hair braided all before 6:15. She's a giant school nerd just like her Auntie and I wouldn't have it any other way. Some of her teachers from 5th grade moved up to 6th. She's very happy to have her favorite teacher (Math & P.E.) from last year as her homeroom teacher this year. I can't wait to hear about her first day!

The Devil Eats Peanut M&M's

Ok, which one of you ASS hats stuffed your peanut M&M's into my purse. So that I would find that at 2PM when I'm craving a fucking snack??? C'mon people. Have you seen that ticker up there move. NOOOOOO And this would be why. You all have to stop conspiring to keep me down. Don't you know that I want a nice white flat pancake butt? Not a lumpy peanut M&M butt. DUh

The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

Ricky Bobby

I got in touch with my inner 10 year old boy. Yes, I have one and he enjoyed a movie today. (He almost pissed his pants watching a trailer for Jackass Number Two) I couldn't convince my family to go see Snakes on a Muther Fuckin Plane, so we ended up seeing Talladega Nights The Ballard of Ricky Bobby. That's an awefully long title for a movie. I wasn't sure what to even say when we were at the ticket window. I'm not one of those intellectual types. No offense to those of you who are. I like going to movies to laugh or cry or whatever. I'm not looking for something to take seriously. I'm lookin for fun. Ricky Bobby was fun. Well for the first half anyway. It was a little long and a little sappy at the end. Will Ferrell is pretty funny. His sidekick is a dork. The best was Sacha Baron Cohen (Also known as D'Ali G) as the gay french race car drive who has come to america to race Ricky.

We saw a preview for Sacha's new movie Borat. Borat is coming from Kazakhstan for the cultural learnings from America for make benefit glorious nation of Kazakhstan. Yea, that's another whopping movie title. I think he's pretty funny. You can think whatever you like. I'm going back to my weekend now.

It's Gonna Be One Of Those Days

I burned my cheek with the curling iron this morning. And I can't forget it because I still have a searing pain there. My husband asked me for his proof of insurance. As I was walking out of the house, late for work. Autumn ran crying from the room when M called her Veruka Salt because she was whining about going with him to REI.

It's gonna be one of those days.

Mushroom

Last night, I had a chance to have dinner with my friend Lizzie and her family. I don't see them nearly enough because her son would hardly look at me when we met up. We met at Fresh Choice because I need to eat salad. hahaha Yes, salad and corn muffins! In line I bribed Tommy with some noodles and he seemed to warm up a little. He's at such a great age (1 1/2) where he's learning so much and talking up a storm. I was impressed that he knows the words for pretty much ever fruit and vegetable. He excitedly pointed out banana's and apples. He even offered me a mushroooom. Unfortunately, it was the one he'd already put in his mouth so I declined.

After dinner, Lizzie announced she wanted Gelato. Well, alrighty, let's go. We went to a little gelato shop which I never even knew was there between Il Fornio and Jamba Juice. Maybe it's new? She told me I should try the Mojito flavor, a little shot of minty heaven? It was pretty crowded so when it was finally my turn I just ordered my cup. Milk chocolate and peanut butter chip. I'll be honest, I didn't think I was gonna like it. I usually think that about everything and half the time I'm wrong. This was one of those times. What a delicious soft treat. I liked that it's softer and very flavorful. I made sure each bite was equal parts peanut butter and chocolate and at the very end I just mixed them together. So so very good. I'm not even going to worry about how many points it was.

We took our gelato out into the courtyard where there is a fountain. By this time it was pretty darn cold and windy. Hello, isn't it August??? Hot August nights? Yea, no. We watched Tommy run a couple of times around the fountain and finished our treat. Any further walking was just out of the question. Lizzie's sister was shivering, I had a shiver. It was just time to go. As we walked back to the car, we passed a man and his dog. Or as Tommy puts it dogggeeee. Dogggeeee. Emphasis on the geee hahaha. I love little kids. Well, little kids who go home with their parents at the end of the evening!

Where In The World Is Dot??

I was gone for an entire day, did you miss me? Yea, you did. Thanks. Someone on a back hoe accidentally cut through some phone wires yesterday. I had no cell phone, no long distance work phone and no internet. I can live quite nicely without the first two, but no internet?? All day?? It was rough, to say the least. I felt completely cut off from the world. Thankfully, I could still call my daughter during the day. Today, it appears we are back to normal.

Yesterday, I had written a post about my hang nail on my toe. But now that it's not hurting anymore, I'm just not feeling it. So I won't bore you with the gory details. haha I commented on Maya's Granny that I had watched a show last night called Taste of America. It's on the Travel Channel and this dude Mark travels to different cities trying foods they are famous for. Last night, he visited Fairbanks, Alaska. Of course there was salmon. Can I just tell you how much I love salmon?? I'm not a big fish eater, but I could eat Salmon all the time! Anyway, Mark visited a family that had a lovely house on a lake. A house you could only get to by Cesna. How cool is that??? They served grilled Salmon with a very light sesame sauce. I just kept imagining myself teleporting into the TV to that BBQ. I couldn't tell you what they served with it because I just kept thinking about that salmon. This must be a salmon record, how many times salmon can be used in a post. haha

He also visited a school where the children were taught and had a chance to make a traditional alaskan treat, fish ice cream. It's not ice cream like we know it. In fact, it's not cold. It's made with animal fat (Moose), or if that's not available Crisco, this is whipped by hand for half an hour to get it really fluffy. There's some sugar and evaporated milk in there too. Then you fold in the FISH. Yes, real fish. Then you add berries for the sweet flavor. This is all mixed by hand. And by hand, I mean they had gloves on and used their hands to actually do the mixing. Once mixed thoroughly, serve. I noticed (and so did the kids) that Mark only took a small bite. It was great to see these kids really enjoy this treat. The kids I know would have turned their noses up at anything with fish in it. Even if it was all sugary.

We love watching the travel channel. They have some really great shows like this where the host travel to different places and you get a peek into what america and the world is eating. Anthony Bourdain No Reservations is by far our favorite. This coming Monday they are doing a show from Beruit and apparently it was filmed just as the beginning of the latest violence over there. Should be very interesting. Anthony is a little rough around the edges in the beginning but you really begin to appreciate his sense of humor and his love for the places he visits. Oh yea, and the FOOD!

Back To School

Autumn informed me last night that she's going to start going to bed at 10 to prepare for when school starts back up. She cleaned out her room yesterday, did her laundry and moved her TV back into the spare room. She wants a desk in her room to do her homework. So she cleared a place, where in the mean time, we can throw a piece of wood to make a desk top on some Target shelves we bought. I know, she sounds like a dream, but don't be fooled. She's like every other normal pre-teen. She just happens to like going to school. One more week. I'm counting down too!

Fast Five Friday

I'm robbing my friend J for her Fast Five Friday because I got nothing. Enjoy. Play along. Bite me.

Fast Five #1
I wanna know:

1. What reading material is currently on your nightstand?
2. What jewelry are you wearing right now, or did you wear today?
3. What is the last beverage you consumed?
4. Are you left-handed or right-handed?
5. What's your cell phone ring tone?

My Answers::

1. I don't read in bead, so the only thing on my nightstand is my Be Delicious perfume and my Nana's jewelry box. I dont' currently have any books in waiting. Lame.

2. I am not wearing any jewelry. I rarely do. My favorite piece of jewelry is a plan silver bracelet that my co-worker brought back from Mexico.

3. The last beverage I consumed (and am still consuming is a large diet coke from McDonalds. I ate breakfast at home but had nothing but water to drink. I needed a little caffeine.

4. I am right handed.

5. My current cell phone ring is Hysteria by Def Leppard. I'm going to see them and Journey in concert at the end of the month. If I could get Hi-Fi ringers (where you hear a clip of the actual song) I would get Christina Aguilera's new single Ain't No Other Man.

Fast Five #2
I wanna know:

1. Gum, mints, or Tic-Tacs? And what flavor?
2. What kind of shoes are you wearing?
3. Suri Cruise: real or imaginary?
4. What kind of entertainment do you listen to in the car -- radio, CD, talk show, or none of the above?
5. Did you ever want to change your name as a kid? If so, what was your favorite "new" name?

My Answers::

1. Tic-Tacs. I currently have the little white ones (wintergreen??) I dont' chew gum much because it makes my jaw hurt.

2. I'm wearing black chunky flip flops from the Bass outlet. I pretty much wear flip flops every day because I can. I was going to post a picture of my "whore's toes" maybe tomorrow.

3. I like to pretend that Suri Cruise is pretend because all that nonsense is just freakin weird. I'm sure she's real if the one thing he can do right is pretect his child, that's great. I still think he's the devil incarnate though. And I don't like his movies.

4. I go back and forth between KCBS news radio and CD's. Next month I'll be investing in Sirius sattelite radio for the car.

5. I ALWAYS wanted to change my name when I was a kid. My name is like my grandmothers name. Not cool for a child. So I had two names in the can for emergencies. Jane was one. I met a girl who spelled her Jayne. I thought that was so cool. My "stage" name for when we played around was always Valerie.

I'm not even going to come up with my own fast five here. Still borrowing from J. hahaha What a WEEZER!

J's Fast Five
She wants to know:
1. Do you prefer rainy, misty weather, or hot dry weather?
2. Drive or Fly?
3. What did you watch on TV last night?
4. What do you have at home from Netflix?
5. Speaking of movies, what do you recommend?

1. I like hot weather. I like being outside and getting a little sun. I also like the option of going inside to air conditioning if I so choose. When I'm snuggled in my bed, I love a rainy night. Eddie Rabbit knew what he was talkin about. haha

2. I always to prefer to drive. I've always hated flying and recently it's just become a little to scary for me. Plus I never go anywhere anyway.

3. Last night I watched Charmed that I had TiVo'd. There wasn't much on.

4. Currently I have Inside Man with Denzel Washington and Clive Owen (Clive is YUM) and Nixon. I just sent back Disc 1 of Amazing Stories.

5. Movies I would recomment on Netflix are Sense and Sensability with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. This is my favorite Jane Austin story. I never got into the book but I love this one and Price and Prejudice with Kiera Knightly. I would also suggest Weeds Season 1. This is an awesome show. It was so good I almost picked up Showtime, but remembered it's mostly porn. So I'll wait for season 2 on Netflix!!

Breaking New Ground

Yep, that ticker is still moving. Amazingly. I feel like I've been eating like a pig. I don't just have one skinny cow, I have two. I haven't been counting my points because they were lowered last week due to me going into the next smaller weight range. And I was drinking margaritas like water. Thankfully, they are all gone and I'm too broke to go buy more.

All of the eating and guilt though, has made me walk more. I'll do my regular 2 mile stink and try to jog a little to get my heart rate up. But when I've been really really bad, I do a 3 mile stint that my girlfriend mapped out. That one is a tough one. I can't do it every day, yet. But I'm working on it. I'm working on it, cuz I want new clothes!!! hahaha I'm not ready to shop at Hot Topic with Ted yet, but soon. Soon my babies.

Baby It's Cold Outside

What is up with the weather. Hello? It's California. Where is the sunshine??? It's cold, windy and overcast. I'm actually wearing a sweatshirt and (gasp!!) long pants. (Long pants that barely fit by the way -- whoop whoop)

Went to the outlets to get the demon seed new shoes for school. They cost twice as much as the pair I got her last year. We got a coupon for $25 off our next purchase, which means we'll be going back to that store and spending even more money with them. Evil. But hey, it's $25 free dollars!!! haha I'm a sucker, I know. Came home to find that my FIL's piece of SHIT Dodge was still sitting broken in my garage. Just so you know, Papa Stick, I blew that fucker to bits and will be mailing you the ashes today. Now my brand new car will have the brave the elements this week in the driveway. I mean, that's like letting my dog sleep outside. Oh the HORROR. I'm just whining, don't pay any attention to me. I can't help it, I was just born this way. I don't know really what to do with myself if I don't have anything to whine about.

Segway back to the weather. It gets very VERY windy where I live. We live next to this stupid retirement community that spends way too much money on these flags that point out "OLD PEOPLE, ENTER HERE". Each month, they put up new flags promoting their latest development and a few weeks later they are nothing but a tattered blur blowing in the wind. I'm looking at them now. Any minute they are going to blow completely off onto some raisin's car and cause a crash. Luckily, an ambulance drives into the development every five minutes. I'm totally not kidding on that one. We have a joke here, when we see an ambulance pulling up. "Difficulty Breathing". It's one of their highest calls.

Make me jealous, tell me what the weather is like where you are.

Nothing To Do

Really? No big plans for the weekend? I can sleep in? I can laze around in my PJ's til noon on Sunday? I can not leave the house if I so choose? I can gorge myself on light string cheese and diet sprite while watching movie after movie after movie? I can lie on the couch and make high pitch noises til Minnie howls at the moon? (we're so mean to her)

Wow. There truly is a GOD.

I will be making time for family, tri-tip sandwiches and a trip to the outlets. But Sunday, I'm staying IN!

Have a great weekend my babies.

Thursday 13

T13_Fridge

I'm spinning on some kind of wonder drug this morning. Here are thirteen things I've accomplished so far.

1) Got up at 5 AM and walked. Yes, that's right. 5 AM. I couldn't sleep. Figured I'd walk it out.

2) Ran into the neighborhood girlies on my walk. Made the whole thing that much more fun. They were SHOCKED to see my ass out there.

3) Came home and did a load of laundry.

4) Showered and did my hair (straightened)

5) Made myself some eggs with mushrooms & green onion. Smothered it in catsup and ate that shit!

6) Did the dishes while that was cookin.

7) No, I'm not on crack. I swear.

8) Put some clothes that have been sitting in the livingroom away. I like to wash and fold my clothes. But I don't like to put them away.

9) Fed the dog. Tried to get her to stay outside like yesterday. She didn't go for it.

10) Fed the cats. Joey is lookin pretty thin. He doesn't like his new food. He wants his squishy num nums.

11) Checked on Autumn. She was snooring away.

12) Opened up the house to let some fresh air in.

13) Threw out some garbage on my way to work.

Now I'm about pooped. Good thing I'm at work now and can nap.

School Shopping

It's that time boys & girls. Time to stock up on school supplies. We are counting down the days til school starts. 21 days to be exact. My daughter is pretty spoiled so clothes she does not need. She's very excited to go to Staples to get school supplies. Remember when we just went to Target for that stuff? She loves Staples. She kept text messaging me this weekend..."when are we going to Staples??"

I like back to school time. I like to shop. I like buying all the little doo-dads that she's going to need. What I don't like is that our school is incredibly lame and they don't post a list of what each grade in middle school is going to need. So we'll be using whatever lists they have posted at the store for her grade. I'm sure once she starts school, we'll have to go back for whatever was missed. Since I like shopping, this won't be a problem.

It will be good to break up my week by having to leave town to go shopping. For the past two days I've been either home or at a neighbors pretending margaritas are the new diet drink. You know sometimes you just get a taste for something and you just have to have it all the time til you get sick of it? I'm not a drinker. Most days I just have diet soda. But lately, the salty sweetness has been calling my name! I got a couples of bottles of pre-mixed margaritas for my birthday. I'm thinking once I finish those off, I won't be buying any more for awhile. Or I could just walk an extra mile! What do you think J?

Joey's Sick

100_0385x

I had to take Joey to the vet this afternoon. Ever since we got back this weekend, I've noticed that he goes into the litter box a lot but nothing comes out. Poor guy was not happy. I mean, who likes going to the dr right? Autumn put him in the carrier and he became very loud and tried to swipe at her feet to let him out. I was thinking that I shouldn't have put off clipping his nails.

The vet checked him and his bladder wasn't full so there is no blockage. They gave him some fluids and sent me home with an expensive bag of food that I'm somehow supposed to give him without the other cats getting any. The food is fatty and our one cat, Lil, is pushing maximum density. The fatty food would probably kill her. If that happened, that would kill Autumn. I guess this means no more yummy treats for the Joey. No more chicken. No more steak. No more tortilla chips. I gave him one just to see if he'd eat it. He did. I don't think there is a food he doesn't like.

Funny how my cat has to go on a diet just like his mama.
