What's Your Best Feature?

Gina was asking today about our hair. Which I happen to consider my best feature. When I'm having a bad hair day, I feel like a great big nothing. I went to beauty school a hundred years ago and I realized now, it was just to learn how to do my hair better. ha!

What do you consider your best feature and why?

American Idol Anyone?

American Idol tried to rock with the original british invasion and in my opinion, it was a luke warm attempt. Being a child of the 80's, I am more partial to the second british invasion. A lot of these sings are so young, why torture them with songs from well before they were born? And then critize them for sounding too old. I don't get it. I decided last night to TiVo AI so that I could fast forward through any really painful parts. Except that LynnDenise said I HAD to watch all of Sanjaya's performance. Without any alcohol, I knew this was a tall order. I'm sure you all saw that kid crying her heart out watching Sanjaya? It reminded me of the girls watching the Beatles play. Crying and carrying on. What was up with her? Was she some Make A Wish kid? Was she a plant? Did she get paid to do that?? I'm synical. I don't believe she was that emotional over freakin American Idol.

Here are my predictions for how this shiz is gonna play out.

Sanjaya Malakar must go home tonight. Yea he rocked out and had fun and all that. But his performance was just a joke. He is the weakest link. Goodbye.

Phil Stacey will be next. He's got a good heart, but he's just not as strong as the rest of the pack. I haven't heard anything from him yet that saves him in my book.

Haley Scarnato is another weak link. She was cute last night, but honestly, I never thought she should have made it into the top 12. She's just not Idol.

Chris Richardson's cuteness is only going to carry him so far. He's got the look and I think he can sing. But he's never given that over the top performance.

Gina Glocksen can rock! Unfortunately, she has a hard time rocking and singing at the same time. This one is a hard one for me, because I really dig Gina. But she needs to sing first and rock out second. I flip flopped Gina and Chris a couple of times here..in the end I think I'd rather see Gina one more week.

Chris Sligh has been fun to watch. He's got a voice and rocks those Buddy Holly glasses. His performance have been mediocre andI don't think he's going to be in the top 3.

Stephanie Edwards a week or two ago was in my top three. I think she's getting lost in the mix. Everyone is comparing her to Beyonce, which I think only hurts her when she doesn't pull off a song. She's good, but I don't think she's going to be in the top 3. Jordin totally edged her out this week!

Jordin Sparks is the BOMB. She's so young and cute. And girl has a set of pipes! I love her and think it would be great if she took the whole thing. In a different competition without a Lakisha and a Blake, she could.

Melinda Doolittle is an amazing singer. She's very humble almost too a fault. I don't think she brings any presence along with her singing though. I totally see her in the top three, but not taking home the title.

Blake Lewis is so fun to watch. I can totally hear him on the radio and think he'd make a great young hip music producer. He's definitely going to have a career in music. Will he be strong enough to take it all? Maybe.

If Lakisha Jones doesn't win this thing, America needs a serious reality check. She's got IT. She and and Melinda are in a singing league all of their own. Last night's performance was blah, but honestly she's young and the 60's are just not her thing. I say we just give it to her tonight and move on to another show already!

Blow Me

I watched this morning in a grocery parking lot, a man with a leaf blower blowing dirt and garbarge around. I sat and wondered, what is the purpose? Isn't a leaf blower intended to blow leaves and stuff into a nice neat pile to be picked up, bagged and disposed of? I saw wondering where was this dirt and trashing being blown to? It appeared for awhile that it was just going in circles. The dirt whirled this way and that as if trying to find a safe place to hold onto. Where does it go? Into the streat, until the next semi blows it back into the parking lot? It just seemed so pointless to me. He came close to my car with his pointless blower as if trying to get some of that dirt to blow up into my car. So I could carry it away for him. I don't get paid to haul away your dirt. Do you see a dirt haulin sign written on this rig? NO, you don't. I almost honked. But between his ear mufflers and the sound of the motor, he probably wouldn't have heard me.

What if each business side by side had a leaf blowing fool, blowing their dirt around. What if at the very same moment they blew their dirt out onto the street, creating this giant tornado like monster vortex? That devoured everything in site? Including the leaf blowers.

That brought a smile to my face.

Nice Weekend

How was yours? Mine was pretty good. I got my doo did. I slept. I watched some bad movies. I worked a little. Shopped a lot. Ate junk food A LOT. It's how I spend most weekends (minus getting my hair done cuz if I did that every weekend, I'd go bald). The only thing I didn't do was walk. Very bad. It was beautiful this weekend with weather in the high 70's. There was a breeze. Saturday morning I had drag my butt into work. I could have gotten up early and went but I slept instead. After work I headed to LynnDenise's house for beer and corned beef and cabbage. I hear it was good. haha I don't care for corned beef. The potatos were good. It was gone in a matter of minutes. We had a nice time visiting and hanging out, gossiping about those who weren't there. You weren't there? Well we talked about ya!

Sunday I needed to take Autumn to get a bat and a bag for her bat for softball. Opening day is next Saturday! I am going to be the dug out Mom/Coach. Making sure the girls are batting in order and all that. Fun. While we were out, she conned me into finding her some shorts. Kohl's was a hit. Found her three pairs. Went to another store and found a couple more and a new bathing suit that covers her from her neck to her legs. I'm kidding. Seriously though, those of us with kids, don't you want to bring back those old bathing suits from the 20's that cover them from head to toe?? She got a cute light blue and white striped halter tankini with the slightest shimmer over it. I told her I wouldn't be buying her anything else until she turned 13 so don't even ask.

I returned a shirt and of course bought two more. One is a cute booby shirt that I will wear for my birthday and parties and things. Hey. Sometimes the girls just like to come out and party. I don't mean girls gone wild here, semi covered is fine. Last night as we put our new clothes away, we went through and threw out (to donate) some old clothes. Autumn didn't part with as much as I'd hoped. I on the other hand have one bag for good will and another for my mom. LUCKY YOU!! I need to get out to my mom's. This week is difficult because Autumn has softball practice at least 3 days this week. So maybe Sunday, I can mooch a free lunch. Don't you love going to free lunch with your mom? I DO!! ooh, and then we can go get some Gelato. That is the shiznit!

Peace BizNOTCHES

Spring is in the Air

It's been so beautiful this week here in the northern CA. The blooms are blooming. The birds are chirping. Their crap is all over my car. haha One of the things I do not like about where I work is that it's adjacent to a golf course with huge ponds. That these large birds like to fly over to for vacation. They fly over my car and cover it in shit. I guess I could have worse problems.

On this love Friday morning, as I am wearing my first open toed shoe to work (a love striped pair of slip ons with a peep toe)

I ask you...

Peep toe or Flip flop?

Normally, I'm all about the flip flop and I just bought two new pairs at Old Navy. But it's still early in the game to go full force 7 days a week in flips.

(I'm sorry Gina if I stole this from you, it sounded familiar? but it's all I got today!)

Party Like It's 1999

Kids, let me say this. It is never a good idea to party the night of daylight savings time. Before you know it, it's 4 AM and you know you aren't going to recover from this one til at least Tuesday. I've still got the bags under my eyes to prove it.

Autumn starts seeing a therapist today and I thought I'd pump her up this weekend with lots and lots of shopping. We went to the mall with our neighbor and her kids. That was an adventure. I haven't been anywhere with a stroller in forever and a day. I did remember that it's not fun. haha I bought Autumn some cute capris and a new Levi's top. She got a cute pair of shoes at Mervyns. I got some crap. It was all good. We were having so much fun Saturday that we didn't leave our friends house til the wee hours on Sunday. Sunday night I dyed Autumn's hair again. We get the wash out in 28 shampoos kind. This time it turned out more like Carot Top than the beautiful red it was last time. It will fade. She loves it. And I guess that's all that matters.

It was a beautiful weekend with highs in the upper 70's with more of the same in the forecast. But I'm too exhausted to enjoy it. Wake me when it's Tuesday.

PS LD It was one time, it didn't mean anything to me and I was thinking about you the whole time. :D

Panfried Filet Mignon with Mushroom Ragout

I made the most awesome dish the other night and I have the picture to prove it!

Here is the recipe. Enjoy

Ingredients:

2 or 3 Filet Mignons. (orinal recipe called for 1-1/2 lb flank steak)
1-1/4 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 or 3 cloves of garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon chopped fresh rosemary
1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 package of fresh mushrooms
1 14 oz can diced tomatoes (I buy one that pepped up with onions & garlic)

Heat up oven to 200 degrees. Have a baking dish ready for meat.

Take steak and beat the crap out of it. I marinate it in soy sauce and worchestor and garlic for at least 1/2 an hour. Recipe calls for adding salt and pepper. I don't.

Heat up 1 tablespoon of oil in large skillet. Heat until hot but not smoking. Saute meat about 4 to 5 minutes on each side. Meat will still be medium rare. Transfer to baking dish and place in the oven.

Keep skillet on medium heat, add a little bit more soy sauce along with the garlic, resemary & red pepper flakes to saute. After about 30 seconds, add mushrooms. Stir frequently, scraping up any brown bits. (mmm for flava!) Cook until mushrooms are juicy, then add tomatoes with their juice. Simmer, stir occasionally until liquid is reduced by two thirds, about 5 to 8 minutes.

Transfer meat to cutting board and cut into thin slices.

Serve topped with ragout. Actually, I transfer to a pretty pasta bowl. The meat was so tender I could cut with a fork.

I Have Some Questions. Do You Have Some Answers?

Why does my daughter feel she needs to wear a string bikini?

Or read Seventeen magazine??

Or pierce her nose???

Why is being 12 so hard?

Why is 36?

Do any of you have these same questions?

Got any answers?

Yea, me neither.

Shriner's Convention

There must have been about a million frogs in the field behind my house last night. You couldn't hear them with the TV on, of course, but when I took Minnie out for the time at 11:30, it was so loud I had to shout at her to go potty. I couldn't hear myself think. I kept thinking there must have been a frog convention out there. Picture all those frogs with little red Shriner's hats on. Chatting about what? Flies?

I went to bed and it was still so loud that I didn't think I was going to be able to sleep. I was able to. I think it seemed so loud because the stucco outside of my bedroom wall has been torn down to fix my leak. And there still is a hole in my wall on the inside with all the stuffing pulled out. I feel like there is nothing between me and my Calvins! I haven't shown you the picture of my pathetic wall have I? Something for tomorrow then.

HEATHER MILLS QUOTE OF THE DAY

"It's very unlikely my leg is going to fly off, although it would be quite funny. I'll have a strap on which I wouldn't normally in every day life."

Shoot, that's why we'd watch right????

huh huh huh She said strap on.

sorry, 10 year old boy inside me is laughing.
