BREAKING NEWS: THE PARTS HAVE BEEN ORDERED
And you know it's because SHE ordered them. Whatever, we are that much closer to a cool comfy 75 degrees people. Actually, today, God has spared me and turned on his own breezy air conditioning so I doubt it will even trip 80 today. Got to love Him.
The saddest thing happened at work yesterday. NO, the A/C is still working here. We have a shop kitty. I've worked here for almost 3 years and there has always been a cat. I'm a big cat person, so I find this one of the special perks of working here. When I first starting working here, there was an old decrepit cat named Eddie that lived here. He was old and ugly and hardly moved. He lived on Bill's desk. He had a bad case of the grumps and died about 6 months after I started here. Everyone was sad. We talked about looking for a kitten and how fun that would be.
Yes, we do find some time to do work here every now and again.
My daughter's fourth grade teacher also worked part time at the local vet office. She would invite Autumn to come help out on Saturdays with her, which was totally cool. On one of these Saturdays, Autumn bet Bo. He was a very big, furry tabby who some old drunk lady had brought to the vet to be put to sleep because she didn't want him anymore. Can you believe that?? She'd had him declawed and then decided he sucked and she didn't want him. If I wasn't a God fearing woman, I'd put a curse upon her house. Thankfully, the vet had no intention of putting him to sleep. I told work about him and that Monday we went down to the vet to pick him up.
He's a great cat. Very loving. And very sleepy. His routine is he greets me when I come in. Tries to trip me a couple of times while I fill up his bowls. He snacks and then lays in the entry way and waits for Bill to come in. He gets very excited when Bill arrives because he knows he's gonna get some special bargain basement wet cat food. After he devours that, it's time for bed. He'll come lay on my desk calendar and sometimes rest his head on my phone. So that when it rings, I have to smoosh his head to one side to retrieve and replace the handset. Around 2 or 3 in the afternoon, it's time for a stretch. Yes, he really sleeps that long. He'll get up, have a snack and then it's over to the file cabinet for some ball licking. He literally props himself up against the file cabinets in order to reach his balls. Got to love a boy. He rests until it's time to go outside for the night.
Here comes the sad part. About two months ago, he went blind in one eye. Kitty Glaucoma or something. It fogged over one day and that was that. Yesterday, it happened to his good eye. He is completely blind. And you know what? He hasn't let it ruin his routine one bit. He just bumps into shit a little more now. I read online that cats (all animals really) are way more adaptable to disabilities than people are. They pretty much said, don't change his routine, put him in his cat box morning and night and he'll be fine.
After a little discussion, we decided that we could handle it and brought in a pen for him to sleep in at night. Out of some sadness, comes a lot of good. He won't be able to go outside anymore which means no more ticks, no more sleeping under oily trucks, no more bad kitties beating him up for his food. He'll have a nice safe warm place to sleep every single night. The only sadness I really see, is that I every morning will have to clean out his cage.
So I'm ordering a box of disposable gloves and industrial size Lysol.
Here is an old pic of BoBo (or Spot as Bill calls him) lying on my desk. Don't you just want to smoooosh him?
