Dress Code

We seem to be having a problem making a school dress code and sticking to it here where I live. Is this the same everywhere? In the past, parents and facility have gotten together and come up with a reasonable dress code for our school district. No flip flops, no holy jeans (this one is a toss up because that's what jeans do, they get holes), no spaghetti straps, no showing the belly, skirts have to be at least at hands length when down at your side. Why is this hard to adhere to? They seem like reasonable guidelines. Why do some parents want their child looking like a whore when they go to school? Why do some parents just not pay any attention to what their children are wearing?

We've all seen the girls wearing short skirts with butt cheeks practically hanging out, low cut tops, short tops or too low rise jeans with a thong sticking out. Then there are the boys with their too big shirts and their too big pants and their friggin undies on display because their too big pants don't cover their too small butts. I just don't get it. I want my kid to be liked. I don't want her to be ridiculed for what she's wearing. But I will draw the line at her dressing like a skank to "fit in".

So back to the problem, the high school has had a dress code in force for two years now. Instead of having a vice principle (school is too poor) we have a teacher who was promoted to Teacher in Charge. One of his new responsibilities is to enforce the dress code. He was a well liked teacher who went from dressing in Hawaiian shirts and shorts to dressing with a shirt and tie because he took his new job seriously. The first week, several students were sent home for violating the dress code. We seemed to be getting on track. Then, like it always does, all hell broke loose. Six parents got together and complained about "how dare you send MY skank child home for the way he/she is dressed". Some parents went so far as to call this teacher at his home in the middle of the night. Seems some of the parents were a little beveraged. Which explains why they don't know or care what their kid is wearing. Instead of telling the few to get with the program, they chastise the Teacher in Charge and tell him he needs to apologize to these parents. Can you believe that crap? So he quit. Yes, these are the idiots molding our young minds during the day. Today, there was a rally/meeting with the school and the parents. I'm pleased to say that the majority of the parents were there in support of the Teacher who was formerly In Charge. I don't know the outcome yet, but I hope the Principle is the one to apologize for being the Idiot In Charge.
