Foody Meme ala J

I took the liberty of copying J's Meme this morning. Still trying to wake up.

1. Favorite Breakfast
Biscuits and gravy with egg and country potatos. I feel a little guilty ordering it because I can’t eat it all. But I love it. With a little ketchup!

2. Favorite Junk Food Breakfast
I hardly ever get fast food breakfast but a bacon and egg biscuit from McDonald’s is good. I also like french toast sticks from Burger King with a Large Dr. Pepper.

3. Favorite Breakfast Cereal
My favorite is Honey Bunches of Oats. Really. If I had to pick cracp, I’d say Cocoa Pebbles.

4. Favorite Lunch at Home
Schwans Pizza (Tomato & Basil) that I top with suauteed (in Pam) mushrooms, garlic and green onion. Only 4 points.

5. Favorite Fast Food Lunch
hmmmm So many to choose from. I love a Ciabatta Burger from Jack in the Crack. How about a Chicken Grilled Stuffed Burrito from Taco Bell? Heart attack city!

6. Favorite Lunch at a Restaurant
Pizza slice (mushroom) and salad combo at Mary’s Pizza Shack. We went here on Saturday!

7. Favorite Fancier Lunch at a Restaurant
Is PF Changs fancier? I really like this place and don’t go often. I like their Seichwan Long Beans, Mongolian Beef and Lettuce Wraps.

8. Favorite Really Fancy Lunch at a Restaurant
I don’t go anywhere really fancy to eat.

9. Favorite Home Cooked Meal
My favorites will involve chicken, of course. I make a mean Puerto Rican chicken stew. I’ll post the recipe for you sometime. I also like Ginger Chicken, with brown rice, broccoli and carrots.

10. Favorite Dinner at a NICE Restaurant
I really tried to think of a fancy place I’ve had dinner, but nothing comes to mind. Sorry.

11. Favorite Fast Food Dinner
Ours is usually pizza from our home town pizza place. They are not so fast though. I prefer thick crust, mushrooms only light on the cheese. The family likes a meatier pizza, thick crust with sausage, linquisa and pepperoni.

12. Favorite Junk Food Snack
Easy, Frigo Light string cheese (1 pt each) and low fat cheese its and a Sprite Zero or Sierra Mist Free. Not so good for ya, Italian Flat Bread from Schwans. Comes with marinara sauce for dipping. Mm mm good

13. Favorite Candy Bar
My favorite is Peanut M&M’s. I also have been craving Kit Kats for a week now. For halloween, my favorites include Almond Joy, Sugar Daddy’s, Reeces Peanut Butter Cups and bit size anything Hershey!!! Can’t wait for tomorrow!

Somber Thursday 13

This one is gonna be rough. My beloved kitty, Joey passed away this morning or during the night. Autumn found him outside, lying peacefully on the ground. My Thursday 13 is a tribute to my favorite buddy. I miss you MAN!

100_0460

1) I named him after Joey's character on Friends. He liked to eat just as much as Joey on TV

2) He was the only male cat I ever owned, he never sprayed the furniture. Although he did try to "mount" the other kitties a couple of times unsuccessfully.

3) He used to walk down the hall calling for me if he didn't know where I was. He'd meow and it would almost sound like mama and I would call to him, I'm here Joey. Here kitty.

4) He loved to run from across the room up his kitty condo. He's run so fast that by the time he hit the condo it would bang against the wall.

5) Joey loved to help me make the bed. I'd throw the sheet on and he'd crawl under it and stay there til the sheets were all on.

6) He didn't like to be held but he would lie on the back of the couch above my head and sleep on my pillow.

7) He made the most beautiful purry cooing sound when you scratched him.

8) Joey liked all kinds of food, he even tried tortilla chips once. His favorite of course was chicken and beef.

9) When I would give him scraps, he'd sit beside me on the couch and grab my hand with his paw so he could have a bite.

10) I miss the way he'd bite my hand when I would rub his belly.

11) I have video of when he was a baby and he's playing underneath a big bowl. It's the funniest thing. If I could share it with you here I would. You'll just have to come over and see it.

12) I miss how soft his fur was. He was completely grey with the faintest stripes on his tail.

13) When I went to pick up a new kitten, I intended on getting another black one because we already had two little black kitties. But I saw this little grey one and he was so playful and already had so much personality. I'm glad I chose him. Even though I only had him for three short years, he was the best kitty ever.

Shoe Shopping

Gina was talking about dress shopping and how much fun that is. Well, I went shoe shopping last night and let me tell you, it was no picnic! I'm looking for a good pair of walking shoes with lots of support and some cushion. Cushion people. Is that too much to freakin ask for??? I want to feel like I'm walking on pillows. I don't want to have to put my feet up after a lousy two mile walk. I want a shoe that will support my fat ass and not give me shin splints.

I went to Sportmart last night. They have a wide selection, I was sure to find something there. I was excited to see they had a lot of things on sale and clearance. M told me I should try New Balance cuz that was his big ol Flintstones wear. I tried them, every last one of them. I didn't even find a maybe. They didn't have enough cushion. They didn't have my size, or if they had my size they didn't have wide width. I tried every last shoe in the joint. Couldn't even find one. Can you believe that?

As a last resort, I even went to Mervyns where I always end up finding shoes that last maybe a month and then start giving me problems. Had my friend Chris helping me, still found NADA. LynnDenise is telling me to go to Kohls. Yea yea, ok. We'll go. I told her that if I don't find anything there, I'm gonna have to go to a shoe store in the mall. I'd rather go to the dentist every day this week than go to a shoe store in the mall. I hate being at their mercy to get me shoes. I hate that they are over priced. I hate that I have to try on every shoe and just can't order something online. I know, hate is such a strong word, but I really do loathe this shoe shopping.

Eye Poppin Good Time

NOT! Do you ever feel like this? I think I inhaled a little too much nature this weekend and it got stuck somewhere between my nasal cavity and the pocket behind my eyes. I think at lunch I shall give myself a warm compress for my face and 50 ibuprofin. MMM Can't wait.

My Chili Verde Recipe That Is So Easy I Can Cook It In My Sleep!

ingredients:

(1) Pork roast or shoulder
(5) Garlic cloves
Water
(1) Jar of La Victoria Green Salsa

I actually do cook it in my sleep. The night before I put a pork roast or shoulder in the crock pot to cook over night. I start it on high and add some water to cover the bottom and some garlic for flavor. Season your pork to your liking. Before I go to bed I turn the crock down to low.

In the morning, I drain excess water and shred the pork with a fork. (Dr. Seuss Style!) Add jar of La Victoria Salsa and mix up. Leave crock simmering all day. I usually turn it off around 4 or 5. Serve with your favorite tortilla. I prefer corn.

It's easy and muy delicioso.

I Communed With Nature and Have the Bruises To Prove It

I thought it would be a good idea today to take the day off and take M to hike at Black Diamond Mines. I think the last time we hiked here was about 6 or 7 years ago. Plenty of time for me to forget how steep those friggin hills are. Many times I thought of telling M to just leave me to die there, but I was too thirsty and exhausted to even speak. Of course we took the long trail, because I like to torture myself. It was fine for the first half. It was one of the most beautiful autumn days today. At each plateau the scenary gets better and better. At the very top, you could look over and see the Antioch bridge, the delta and the valley of Clayton. The further you go up the mountain (it was pretty effing big to me) the sounds of civilation go away til all you can hear are the birds chirping, the ground cover rustling. It was very peaceful.

And agonizing. I though after all these months of walking I'd be in better shape to tackle these monstrous hills. I was completely and utterly wrong. At one point I was bent over so far to try and get some momentum up the hill I could have reached two inches and kissed the damn thing. Every time we reached another top M would say, this is it, it's all down hill from here. Every time he said it, which was about 5 times, I wanted to reach out and strike him dead. He's lucky I didn't have the strength. The highlight of the trip would have been when I tried to slide down between two rocks and actually summer-saulted down onto my bottom and slid some more landing on my knee and scratching up my leg. We had a good laugh. Well I did, M was probably panicking at thought of having to carry his abundant wife back to the car. I hope my laughter put his mind at ease. The only thing that got me back up that last hill was the thought of the french dip and Dr. Pepper waiting for me at Schooners. Let me tell you, it was one hell of a sandwich! Now pass the ibuprofin, I'm going to bed.

Shea Homes Pulls Slightly Ahead of Tom Cruise as the Devil Incarnate

I read online yesterday that Shea Homes is relocating some 500 bodies that were in an ancient Indian burial ground to make room for...half dead bodies to move into their newest Trilogy development in Brentwood, CA. Trilogy is an active community for seniors that usually comes with a golf course and clubhouse/restaurant. Round these parts we call it Rancho Rigomortis. It is not fun to be on the highway behind one of these semi conscious folks.

What kind of a heartless person thought it was a good idea to dig up dead bodies and put ugly houses on the land. I mean, didn't they see the movie Poltergeist? Yea, good luck with that one. Would you buy a house that was built on an ancient burial ground or former cemetery? I could tell you with certainty, I would not.

Sweatin Out the Toxins

I snuck out of the house today and walked without my crazy neighbor. I wasn't going to walk at all today. Tuesday is weigh in day, but since I've apparently hung up my weights for awhile, I knew I should get my big ass out there. M had just gotten home and told me the neighbors garage door was open. Damn. Oh well, I've got to get out there and I just don't feel like asking her if she wants to go. I told him I was going to brave it and go. I open the door and see her husband mowing the lawn. DAMN!! I heard a faint "good luck" as I slammed the door. I put my head phones is and turned Van Halen waaaaaaay up. I made it.

She's a nice gal, my crazy neighbor. She means well. But she's truly CRAZY. And she walks slow. I mean, I'm five feet tall on a good day, and I walk slow. So if I think she walks slow then she walks really really slow. She came to me about a month ago and said she was looking for walking partner. Really? Cuz I don't think I'd seen her leave the house in about six months. What do you say? I like to walk alone? Is that ok to say? I honestly figured we'd walk a few times, then she'd get sick and I wouldn't see her for another six months. I think she hibernates. Anyway, we walked some. I took it easy on her, tried to break her in. She kept up. I was surprised. She smokes and like I said, she literally won't leave her house for months at a time. In the five years that I've known her, she's never worked. She's gone back to school twice and both times she started having panic attacks or something and quit. She claims they weren't panic attacks but heart problems. She goes to this Russian CRAZY doctor who scanned her with his miracle machine and told her that she had a blockage in her heart and that he could heal her with some salve or something. Ok, I guess anything is possible, but I'm a skeptic and am just calling bullshit. I like calling bullshit, you should try it. It's fun.

Walking with her consists of me walking slowly, praying a car will side swipe her and her going on and on about Russian crazy doctors, her hippy dippy holistic books and how we need to sweat out the toxins in this new sauna she bought. I'm sorry, I could live here for twenty more years and still not know her well enough to sit in a fucking sauna with that loon.

I guess I'm lucky that the time change is coming. She won't walk in the dark. Or the cold. I'll be free til at least spring. By then my beard will have grown in and she won't recognize me.

**The above was intended solely for the purpose of making you laugh. I in no way intended to offend any Russian doctors who may or may not be crazy. I do not believe that if you enjoy reading about or participating in holistic healing that you are in fact a hippy dippy. (as I role my eyes at the back of your head) I do, however, stand my statement that I will not now or in the future sit in a sauna with any of you loons. That is where I draw the line.

Weekend Wrap Up

It's Monday again, why does this keep happening?? We had a pretty good weekend. A carnival of sorts was in town. Friday night we loaded up Autumn and her friend with some cash and dropped them off to ride rides and be goofy without parental supervision. M and I headed to the bar to hang for a couple of hours before it got too crowded. I'd been looking forward to strawberry daiquiri's all week. M almost baled on me (as usual) but I managed to convince him to go. After which he said we could do that every friday night. YAY ME!!! Not so good for my diet. I think I'm letting up on the holidays. I can feel it. I'm not completely giving up. Still walking.

Saturday was pretty lazy. I took Autumn and her friend to a football game. I tried to finish watching Battlestar Gallactica season 2. I was confused by there being two season 2 DVD sets. 2.0 and 2.5. I ended up with disc 3 of each part on Netflix so I was still missing a bunch of shows. I finished season 2 and had to get season 2.5 from my brother in law. I have season 3 waiting for me on my TiVo. I think this week I will finally get there ;) Later in the afternoon a friend and I went to see The Departed. I'm a big Jack Nichelson fan and this movie had gotten great reviews so I was pretty excited. I was NOT dissappointed. It was a pretty good twisty turny gangsta thriller. With each turn you were trying to figure out who was good and who was bad. And in the end, well I won't give that away. The movie had a lot of good music and at different points in the movie it cranked up the soundtrack. There was an older gentlemen sitting next to me who kept putting his fingers in his ears.

Sunday, Autumn finished her project on volcanos for school. She was supposed to have a partner but we could never get the girls together so Autumn ended up doing it all herself. She didn't seem to bothered by it. I was just glad it was finished. Later, we went to my sister in law's and shopped a bit. I got a few cheap halloween decorations at Big Lots. Had some pumpkin spice latte. It was a nice end to the weekend. Last night, we watched the Hot Chick that we got for $5.50 at Target. Autumn loves this movie. It's pretty cute. Rob Schneider was born to play a teenage girl. I crawled into bed around eleven and cried that the weekend was over already.

School (UPDATED)

I did end up calling the school yesterday. I only talked to the woman in the office, Marie. She's great. She's the heart and soul of the school. She let me know that parent/teacher conferences were in two weeks. Last night we happened to bump into her new homeroom teacher, Mrs. Science. (She's the science teacher, duh) She let me know that they were changing around quite a few students. It's not so much about the ones who are being disruptive, it's more about moving kids that are struggling to slower paced classes and moving other (genius) students to more challenging ones. Still, a letter or a phone call would have been nice. She put my mind at ease and let me know that she enjoys having Autumn in her class and she really wants to see Autumn grow. Is it bad to mention that I ran into Mrs. Science in a bar???

Autumn told us yesterday that her teachers are moving her and her brainiac friend to another class because their current class is too disruptive. While I'm glad they seem to recognize her genius and care about her edumacation, I wish they would have called me. I'm anxiously awaiting parent/teacher conferences so I can get a handle on what exactly is going on down there.

Some days I feel like she is getting a decent education. Other times I feel like I give her $1.75 everyday to go to the circus. Doo do dodaloaloaloalo do doo do do

Wednesday, October 11, 2006

We made the decision pretty early on that Autumn would not have a TV with cable in her room. This decision was reaffirmed when we could not get her to stop watching skanky dating shows on MTV. We have two TVs, one in the living room and one in my bedroom. So if we are watching something like NIP/TUCK, she can still watch her favorite show in my room. Last night was one of those times. After our show was over, I walked into the bedroom to put our sheets on the bed and found my little darling going through my counter under the sink.

Me: Uh, what the hell are you doing in there???

Darling: Looking for my hair clips. Look what I found..

Me: (please dont be my )

Darling: Cool nail polish!

Whew.

DVD Friday

It's Friday and all I can think about is curling up on the couch with my stinky fleece blanket (dog needs a bath) and watching some DVD's. What's on tonight you ask? Let's take a tour of my DVD library.

Tonight will be action packed, a Sci-Fi Friday if you will. I received X-Men: The Last Stand from Netflix last night. Autumn and I saw this at the theatre but M didn't. He's not much of a movie goer. I'm not sure why I even married him. This one was not my favorite of the three, but a close second. There are some really good moments and I liked the special effects. They could make 10 X-Men movies and I'd probably see them all. I don't read comics, I just like them in movies.

After M goes to bed and I send Autumn off to the dungeon, I will be catching up on Battlestar Galactica Season 2. I know the season premiere is on tonight. I have my TiVo set to store the new episodes. I tried watching the first season a while back and really had a hard time with all the changes to the characters. I was an original series fan. I'll admit here I didn't finish the first season. Then I read some recaps of season 2 and I got hooked again. Last night, I watched the first two episodes and I almost had talked myself into staying up til 1 AM to finish the disc. Thankfully, the pull of my warm soft bed was greater. Side note, I love the look of the new cylons. They are so fast and damn they are deadly. But don't you miss the clunky old ones that moved slower and said "By your command?" Yea, me too.

What are those lying around you ask? Well, night before last Autumn and I watched Finding Nemo. I like that Autumn is 11 now and we don't have to watch these cartoons 20 times in a row anymore. I had taken Autumn to the dentist Saturday and Nemo was playing in the waiting room. It's one of my favorite Disney movies because I am Marlin. Only I'm a girl and not a clown fish, although I've been known to be a clown. Underneath that is Twister. The other night Dogma came on cable and we were going to watch our DVD so we could watch with all the dirty words, but then M gave me a choice of that or Twister. Twister is just fun. It's a terrible movie filled with bad acting and CGI that looks like my friends 5 year old created. But it's super fun. Favorite line: "I've got to go Julia, we've got COWS!" as they were caught in a tornado with a cow flying back and forth in the wind. LOVE. IT.

The books by the TV, no those aren't books. That is the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. You just never know when you are gonna need some ELF, so I keep those in sight at all times. Crap, what is this doing up here? Snatch is on top of my Rings. Have you ever heard of Snatch? It's a quirky little movie by Guy Ritchie. M is in love with Brad Pitt in this movie. He plays a boxer with this wicked hard to understand accent. It's funny and all, but I don't really enjoy watching movies with snatch in the title, know what I mean?

Well, now you know what I'm doing this weekend. I could go out and enjoy mother earth this weekend, but I don't wanna.

Battery Low

Autumn woke us up at 4:30 to tell us the power was out. I'm not sure what woke her up but it was a good thing, because M had to leave for work. Of course, I couldn't go back to sleep. I think it's way creepy when the power goes out. Like all the criminals in the neighborhood are doing cartwheels thinking about robbing me! I lay trapped in my vivid imagination for awhile. As I finally started to fall back asleep I heard Autumn again, she wanted to come to bed with me. Sure fine just be quiet! I tried tried tried to go back to sleep but to no avail. I dozed here and there but that was it. It's now 8:13 and all I can think about is taking a nap at lunch time.

I was kind of hoping the power would stay out long enough so that I wouldn't have to go to work. Wouldn't you know it, it came back on right at 7 when I get up. Damn this evil world!!

Indian Summer, What Happened To You?

100_0415

This weekend the dreams of an indian summer crashed and burned. Normally, this time of year we are indulged with very calm weather. No winds whipping my gazebo top to shreds, warm days, cool nights. Today, it actually drizzled. Showers are in the forecast for this week. J is sitting back on her comfy couch with a glass of wine saying FINALLY!!!

With Jack Frost letting out a chuckle here and there this weekend, we went on a mission to find Autumn some warm outerware. There was none to be found I tell ya. Old Navy was a bust, as was well every store we went to. We actually found something at Kohl's and the goodwill store of all places. I've given them so much, I thought we could get a little back. I sometimes feel guilty to shop at a place I feel should be for those who can't afford much more. But the look on Autumn's face when she found the cutest crop jean jacket made me swallow my guilt with a large Dr. Pepper with extra ice.

Today after a long walk with the neighbor, I got to thinking about my Mom. I thought about my FIL too, about how he said we never come over. I've actually seen you the past two weekends in a row. I haven't seen my mom in way too long. So I called her and asked if she wanted to go get gelato. I can think of no finer way to celebrate the end of summer, than gelato. We had a great time sitting outside the little shop eating and reminiscing about our family, mostly her parents. My grandmother had nine sisters. Can you imagine life with ten girls? It must have been complete chaos. We talked about these family reunions we'd have, where the sisters would drink and dance on the tables. My mom thought this was funny that I even remember such a thing. It's kind of hard to forget a picture like that of your beloved grandmother.

While we were sitting and chatting, we noticed a police car pulled over and two officers talking to a man with a baby stroller. I was being a total gawker, at first I thought maybe something had happened to the child or something. They talked for several minutes. As the man walked away, my mom says, "He's a homeless man." It was kind of unnerving to see a homeless man stowing his life into a baby stroller. I guess you do what you can with what you find? I don't know. I got to thinking, of all places to get caught being homeless, The Creek is not the place. It's high end, it's diverse, but not that diverse apparently.

After every outing with my mom, I can always count on her to come home and write me a quick email telling me that she had a nice time and what a great daughter I am. (insert tooting horn here). I just wanted her to know that I love that. I look forward to it. I love ya, ma.

I hope your weekend was just as lovely as mine.
