Down for the Count

I caught Michael's cold. After bullying him all weekend, telling him he wasn't that sick...I got the worst sore throat ever. Ok, not ever but it was really really hurting earlier. They didn't need any more drivers for the field trip, so I ended up just staying home. I was kind of bummed out, but also glad to have the day to rest by myself. Back to the grind tomorrow. But if I'm quiet, Cherry, it's just because I feel like crap and don't feel like playing :D It's nothing personal, ok?

hahaha I'm just kidding you. A little.

FLASHBACK!

After downing some Dr. Pepper, I seem to be in the right frame of mind to do a little Flashback Friday. :D I wouldn't want to disappoint my 4 fans. hahaha

I was listening to Vision of Love by Mariah Carey. I remember listening to this song on the Cruise with Lynn. She had the single on cassette. I ended up buying the whole cassette. I even have her #1's on CD. There I said it.

I thought I would give you the top 10 songs of 1981 and give you my two cents about them.

Queue drum roll....

THE TOP 10 SONGS OF 1981

Physical-- Olivia Newton-John (Sweet Sandy from Grease gets NAUGHTY!!)

Bette Davis Eyes-- Kim Carnes (a good one hit wonder)

Endless Love-- Diana Ross & Lionel Richie (Unfortunately, makes me think of the movie and the fact that Brooke Shields was exploited by her mother)

Arthur’s Theme-- Christopher Cross (funny movie)

Kiss On My List-- Daryl Hall & John Oates (not one of my favorites)

Jessie’s Girl-- Rick Springfield (SWAK!)

I Love a Rainy Night-- Eddie Rabbitt (Too HAIRY!)

9 to 5-- Dolly Parton (One of my all time favorite movies!)

Private Eyes-- Daryl Hall & John Oates (two in the top 10..but still not a fav)

Rapture-- Blondie (She was soo ahead of her time with that whole rap at the end...)

Do you remember the Rapture Rap?

Fab Five Freddie told me everybody's high
DJ's spinnin' are savin' my mind
Flash is fast, Flash is cool
Francois sez fas, Flashe' no do
And you don't stop, sure shot
Go out to the parking lot
And you get in your car and you drive real far
And you drive all night and then you see a light
And it comes right down and lands on the ground
And out comes a man from Mars
And you try to run but he's got a gun
And he shoots you dead and he eats your head
And then you're in the man from Mars
You go out at night, eatin' cars
You eat Cadillacs, Lincolns too
Mercurys and Subarus
And you don't stop, you keep on eatin' cars
Then, when there's no more cars
You go out at night and eat up bars where the people meet
Face to face, dance cheek to cheek
One to one, man to man
Dance toe to toe
Don't move too slow, 'cause the man from Mars
Is through with cars, he's eatin' bars
Yeah, wall to wall, door to door, hall to hall
He's gonna eat 'em all
Rapture, be pure
Take a tour, through the sewer
Don't strain your brain, paint a train
You'll be singin' in the rain
I said don't stop, do punk rock

Well now you see what you wanna be
Just have your party on TV
'Cause the man from Mars won't eat up bars when the TV's on
And now he's gone back up to space
Where he won't have a hassle with the human race
And you hip-hop, and you don't stop
Just blast off, sure shot
'Cause the man from Mars stopped eatin' cars and eatin' bars
And now he only eats guitars, get up!

Thursday

It's a ho-hum Thursday. It's Day 4 in the work week. It's the last day of the work week if your my husband. JERK It's Day 2 of cramps. Yeah, love em. I have a lot of random nothingness to say today. I guess I need to just let it out and move on with life. Where to start...Well last night I got a latte for the first time in days! I live in a very small town with **GASP** no starbucks! I think it's probably a good thing. Anyway, got the pumpkin spice ON THE HOUSE! Ok, it was on Lynn. So it should have been the best ever right? NO, it wasn't. No whip cream. Tasted more like coffee, less like pumpkin. :( Disappointing. While I was stewing about that on the way home I got behind one of those idiot drivers who can't decide if they are going to drive 40 MPH or 60 MPH so we try each back and forth the whole friggin way home. A steady 50 would have been nice.

Yesterday was my Nephew's birthday. He's 11. He's pretty tall, taller than me. I'm pretty short. 5 Ft on my best day. He wanted to eat at Panera for his birthday. I'd never been there. Panera is my HEAVEN. It's all about the bread. I'm such a bread-a-holic. So tasty, I had french onion soup in a bread bowl. mmmmm Good on a cold night. We also had baggettes (ok, dunno spelling), a chocolate cookie and DR. Pepper! I told you it was my heaven. If there are two things I cannot live without, it's bread and Dr. Pepper. And Target.

Which leads me to my next random thought. While I do LOVE the Target, (I refuse to shop the Walmart and only go to KMart when I'm desperate) why is it I end up spending half my paycheck in there and feel like I only got a few cleaning supplies, two pillows and a blanket??? I spend so much money in that place, I feel like I should be rewarded or something. "Dot! You are our most Valued Customer! And to show our appreciation, we are giving you a 10 minute shopping spree on US!!!!" queue applause and confetti. Where would I run to you ask?? Well that's a toss up. I guess I'd head to cleaning supplies. hahahaha And beauty. I wouldn't make it all the way to the other side of the store to electronics...Ok they should be giving me TWO SHOPPING SPREES! I mean, I'm THAT good of a customer. I should own one of these babies by now. I have been a faithful customer since the beginning of Target! I think I'll send them an email. They need to seriously come up with a good rewards program. I know you all must feel the same way. Except for J, I don't know if she's really a Target girl...She'll have to comment and let us know!

PS HAPPY BIRTHDAY NEPHEW!!!

It's That Time

So, it's January 24th. I think it's about time to put those "good intentions" we have every new year into action. I hate to use the word resolution. The only thing I'm resolute about is the fact that my ass has quadrupled in size every year since the birth of my child. And for those of you playing at home, that would be 11 years. I stopped by my friends house tonight on the way home from work. She has more energy than any 3 year old I know! She's young, a LOT younger than me. She has four kids, two step daughters of the pre-teen variety that live with her full time and two very young children, ages 3 and 1. (She's friggin craZAY) She chases her kids all day, takes on another little one, you know for fun. She caters to her man every night. Oh yeah, you know what I mean. AND she finds the time and energy to go to the gym and work her ass off four nights a week! I on the other hand, have only one child and at this point, she's self sufficient. Frankly, I can pretty much take care of her from the couch. I DON'T cater to my man. He'll be the first one to tell you that. If I feel like cooking dinner at night I will, if not I'll tell him to make it his own damn self. Or better yet, make MY dinner bitch! Yeah, I know you worked hard, but shit my TiVo is backing up.

It's really time for a change. I'm still gonna be watching TiVo at night, ohmygod, I'm never giving that up. NEVER! What I mean is, I'm setting the alarm tomorrow for the Butt ASS crack of dawn (5:45), and I'm draggin said ass out for a walk! It's a good way to start the day right? I've had the shoes. Cute orange ones to match a sweater. And cute green ones that match another sweater. You're getting the picture right? L-O-S-E-R Well this loser is gonna do it. JUST DO IT! Yeah! NIKE! Whoa, I'm getting dizzy with all the excitement. I better get back to that couch.

I just told Joey that I was gonna be exercising in the morning so I wouldn't be able to cuddle with him anymore.

I told her I'd give her $5 to rip it out. $10 if she'd let me do it. She took a pass on both.

She did very well at the appointment. On the one day that she actually ate breakfast, she yakked it up while they were trying to get a mold of the inside of her mouth for her new retainer. Everyone seemed to handle it pretty well. Apparently, they make the part of the retainer that is on the roof of your mouth in different colors and pictures??? Autumn, if course, chose camouflage. Yes, she's the son we always hoped we'd have. *sigh*

IT'S FRIDAY, OOAH OOAH

Happy Friday everyone!!! I don't have a flash back for you today. I'm here (at work) for a little bit then we're off to take Autumn to the orthodontist to get her top braces removed. I'm excited to see what she looks like now...I have some way before shots of her..I'll post a way before, before and after shot tonight. She's excited to be able to chew some gum. Sadly, it will only be for the weekend. Cherry, I'm thinking of sharing some my fruit stripe with her!! hehehe Anyway, we go back on Tuesday to get fitted for her retainer, then no more gum. Well, I guess she can take the retainer out and chew some. Why are kids so obsessed with chewing gum?? I had a strange obsession myself with gum, when I was little I had a gumball machine and I used to load my Dad up with tens of thousands of gum balls (ok, it was probably less than that) and he would make the largest bubbles I had ever seen. They looked like the globe, all blue and brown. Do you remember that show Big Blue Marble? I loved that show and I would ask him ALWAYS, Daddy Daddy make the Big Blue Marble!! I have to say that is about the finest memory I have of my Dad.

Well, more later folks. I hope you all have a fabulous Friday

Don't Bother Me, I'm Trying to Find My Happy Place

As some of you know (ok all four of you know this), I have a five minute commute home from work. I'm a very lucky girl. How my daughter manages to piss me off in those five minutes deserves a Golden Globe! I pick her up at the youth center, where she spends her afternoons and I notice she's wearing the basketball shorts her friend kindly loaned her back in NOVEMBER. For the record, she didn't even loan them in the first place, she left them at our house after a sleepover on Autumn's birthday. I guess she thought it was like a gift or something. So, she's proceeded to live in said shorts for the past 3 months. Last week both my husband and I said it was time to give back the shorts. I told her I would be more than happy to buy her her very own basketball shorts on payday. We even found some at the Nike Outlet for $12.99. Payday is the 26th. I don't think that's too much time to wait, do you? I know lots of Mom's that would just say tough wear what you got. But I'm not that kind of Mom. I'm the kind of cool Mom that likes to shop. I don't think you can spoil a kid with clothing. We donate everything she's grows out of, so I feel even better about the abundance of clothing in her room.

As we are walking to the car, she proceeds to tell me that her pants had gotten wet today in the rain and that this friend had told her to put on the shorts, being the very good friend that she is. I know she tells me this without me having the chance to ask because she know me so well. I was already formulating my question in my head and how I was going to be able to scream it as loudly as I can without being incoherent. Fine I say, that was very nice of her. So, this is where she interrupts me by telling me the story over again. She does this, it's like a defense mechanism to divert the screaming. I let her finish and try to explain about giving the shorts back and when she interrupts me Again. Now she's really trying to get a rise out of me. Bait I usually fall for, but not today. huge smile

I try again, "So, what I'm trying to say if you'll stop interrupting me is that you need to do a load of laundry tonight, wash the shorts and give them back to your friend tomorrow"

Autumn, "I KNOW" you can insert your own whiney tone..

I say, "If you think you'll need an extra pair of pants, then bring an extra pair of your own." I really said this pleasantly, but assertively.

I continue, "You are taking advantage of your friends generosity.."

Autumn interrupts in an even louder voice, "NO I'M NOT!!" See, she's missing the yelling that is usually coming out of me and she's very confused.

I say, "Okaaay, AND you can spend some time in your room!" Pats self on back for STILL not yelling.

Autumn in same loud voice, "Good!"

I say "Good" Couldn't help it.

It's taken me longer to write this to you than it took to drive home. I'm sitting here gloating for not yelling and enjoying the quiet that IS having your 11 year old child in her room.

ahhhhh What's on TV??? You knew my happy place was the TV didn't you? You know me so well.

Golden Globes

Watching award shows in my family is a BIG DEAL. We gather at one house, buy all kinds of junk food, Bagel Bites, Petite Quiches, Mini Chimichangas - anything that comes bite size. It's nice if we can hunker down and watch the red carpet shows with the WORST commentators on the planet before the big event. We used to watch painfully, but faithfully with Joan and Melissa. But since they've moved to the TV Guide Channel, not so much. Which is fine by me because they are just scary! Because we had to work yesterday, we didn't get to see the big time red carpet shows. Well, that's not entirely true. I checked E!'s website and they had a live stream of what they were broadcasting. I don't have speakers at work, so I didn't get to hear anything but I was able to watch and vote for my favorite dressed stars. I think we should start watching without sound from now on! I mean really, I don't need to know how they felt about the movie they made...I'm sure I've already read it somewhere. And I hate when they are fumbling around for something, ANYTHING to ask. They should just stick to the basics. Who are you wearing, you look great, good luck and good night!

Here are some highlights

My vote for cutest couple
Reese

Best Man? haha Won for Transamerica and my pic for best dress
huffman

Beat all the Desperate Housewives
Parker

Dr. McDreamy. Ok, he didn't win anything, but he's very handsome.

Another Birthday

We celebrated another birthday this weekend. One thing you must know, January is about as bad shopping wise for me as is December. There are four family (and extended family) birthdays and one anniversary (that would be Line and her spouse Schmoopy). Yesterday was my childhood friend's oldest daughters birthday. She turned the big SEVEN. We celebrated at the Benihauna Japanese Restaurant. I know what you're thinking.. Really??? Not Chucky Cheese? REALLY! They are just cool like that. There were quite a few of us so we took up two tables. I ended up with the kids and with the other cool aunt. In the end, this worked out to be in our favor because most kids just don't like shrimp. More for us! We had a really good time and there were no injuries like this.

Flashback Friday

Hey! It's flashback Friday! When I used to commute an hour or more to work every day, I looked forward to flashback Fridays. Some radio stations would pull out some good ones from the 80's. Musically, I am stuck in the 70's and 80's. I love, LOVE satellite radio because I can listen to just that if I choose. So here's a couple, a two-fer if you will.

Making Connections

I sat at my computer this weekend trying hard to come up with a clever post for the weekend. I had just finished watching Must Love Dogs and wanted to share with you my thoughts on John Cusack and that fact that he isn't looking that great for 40 as my good friend J! But as I was thinking about what I wanted to say and browsing my friends blogs, when I noticed a comment on one of them. A comment from someone I've come to admire. Who commented on a friends blog. A friend who got the link of someone I admire from my blog. And she got the comment! I was green with envy. It should have been ME! Ok, I don't mean to sound like a stalker. I'm really not. I was just a little jealous that they made a connection first. Which is great. That's what this is all about right? Making connections? I told myself that I was just going to be happy for my friend (because she's really cool). I never did make that post about John Cusack though. I'll sum it up here. The movie was ok and he's still cool.
This morning I came to work and started checking my fav places in blogland. I got to a new one I like, two pink lines. She posted about some new blogs she'd been reading and mine was one of them. Take a sec and go say hi to Corinne. She's about to become a new mommy and I think she's pretty cool. So now I sit not green with envy, but a little pink with embarrassment that someone other than my few trusted friends are taking a peak into my life.

Reading Rainbow

I was commenting on J's blog about reading, or the lack there of that goes on in my household, and I decided to blog about it on my own. Of course it won't be as eloquently as J, probably because I'm becoming illiterate from all the NOT reading. Seriously, the brain, you gotta use it or lose it people. I used to be an A student in English and Spelling. I just plain suck now. Thank Gates for spell check and the online thesaurus because you wouldn't be able to read my babble right now if it weren't for Him. (I had to spell check thesaurus. See?? DUMB)

I was trying to think of what I've read in the past couple of years. I average about two books a year. Something Harry Potter and something not Harry Potter. I think the last non Harry Potter book I read was The Secret Life of Bees, which I enjoyed. Well maybe enjoyed is not the right word. It was a good read for me. I love getting into a good book. But I just can never seem to muster up enough desire to pick one up. I like going to the bookstore. I love hearing about a book someone recommends and borrowing it or buying it myself. I bring it home, put it on the floor beside me on the couch, and then a year later when I'm tired of hitting it with the vacuum I stick inside a cabinet and forget about it for another year.

Between cleaning, putting up with my husband, and smacking the child around raising my kid, the only energy I'm left with can barely hold that remote up to change the channels. Maybe when the big A is off to college and not under foot anymore I will have more time, more energy..I doubt it though. I'm gonna have to pick up the slack of doing her chores as well as my own. *sigh* You all are probably gonna have to communicate with me using charades. 3 words, two syllables, sounds like this...

Waxing Nostalgic

Jessie is a friend. Yeah, I know he's been a good friend of mine. But lately somethings changed it ain't hard to define Jessie's got himself a girl and I wanna make her mine.

You may have heard that I got a cool CD for Christmas. Rick Springfield Anthology.Anthology Listening to it brought back fond memories of Jessie's Girl, his always moist looking lips (WTF was up with that???), Dr. Noah Drake, that cool dog on his album covers.. RickYes, I had the ALBUM! A present from my dear departed Nana. He still tours and makes mustic and stuff. I'd go see him in concert. Who's with me??? Anyone?? **crickets chirping**

You know else who I loved back then? Pat Benatar. Pat She still rocks! Check out her website. YOU KNOW Love is a Battlefield. Ok, that is totally NOT one of my favorites. Actually, you probably wouldn't even know any of my real fav's. I was into her way before she hit it big with Heartbreaker and Hit Me With Your Best Shot. While we are waxing, do you guys remember in Fast Times at Ridgement High where the Phoebe Cates chick is explaining the other girls at school to Stacy? The 3 Pat Benatar lookalikes?? Classic. Ok, if that's going too far into the Way-Back machine..I can school ya. Oh yeah, I have it on DVD. "That's my skull..I'm soo wasted!" hahaha When I go to heaven, my cloud is gonna be totally 80's man. Hope you'll stop by.

Ok, Guess which Rick Springfield song this lyric is from. LINE-Give em a chance man. hahaha

I'm goin out on the town tonight and get as wild as I can be. I'm gonna find out what it's really like to be loose, high and free. Yeah I don't care what the people say. I've taken my mind I'm changing to say.

Happy New Years!

100_0710

We decided to start the year off right. awwww
Don't go getting all sappy. We still hate each other with a passion. If we were like this all the time, the earth would tilt off it's axis and hurl through space into a black hole. I wouldn't want to be responsible for ending all life as we know it. So we'll stick to the status quo. But it was nice for a moment!
**devilish grin**

PS I forgot the funniest part of this picture. Autumn was standing right there when it happened and was all EWWWWWW. I told her "Where do you think you came from little girl? I just made you a baby brother!!" hahaha So now she thinks you get pregnant from kissing. Of course, I'm gonna let her keep on thinking this for a couple of years.
